Everyday objects talk about dementia

Did you know that Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia? It is estimated that one in five Belgians will develop the disease at some point. So helping to increase general awareness and understanding is vital!

In collaboration with Demiclowns and Alzheimer Liga Vlaanderen, we developed a podcast that offers advice on interacting with individuals with dementia and fosters a warm understanding of the disease.

A FRESH AUDIO PERSPECTIVE ON ADVICE GIVING

We looked for a way to convey advice and recognition in an accessible, motivating, and playful way to everyone who comes into contact with people with dementia. Whether you are a friend, family member, caregiver, or healthcare professional.

Resulting in a series of fictional audio stories that take you on an emotional rollercoaster as objects belonging to people with dementia are transported to a new destination. Meanwhile, hilarious and inspiring stories are revealed.

The series consists of six episodes, each focusing on an object owned by someone with dementia. These everyday items take you into the world of their owners and their struggle against dementia. So, we don’t just talk about dementia; we let you experience it!

MEET THE OBJECTS

Dirk van Dijck as fountain pen
Joke Emmers as pocket knife
Ann Tuts as kitchen apron
Bert Cosemans as radio
Sofie van Moll as trinket
Sebastien Dewaele as thermos

A WARM DOSE OF UNDERSTANDING

The stories seem light, making them easy to listen to, but at the same time, they contain a wealth of advice that is freely applicable. Listeners can relate to certain characters or be curious about the approach of other characters. They are not given a value judgment on what is right or wrong, encouraging them to explore and try on their own. Listen along and be inspired by the objects and their ways of dealing with the diagnosis of their owners.

A big thanks to Lara Debeuf, Bo Tuts and Sander Lambrecht for their creativity & energy!
